Fowey to Plymouth

Only a short hop today from Fowey to Plymouth, with not a lot of wind, so it was hard to keep Falanda moving, and of course ahead of the other boats!

At one point we were racing a big 40' fiberglass sailing boat, with Falanda edging in front, easily. I am always suprised at how fast Falanda can sail, when she sneaks past the modern boats, with full crew. For a 70 year old wooden boat, I am delighted that she is so fast,  especially compared to the modern boats with all their fancy equiptment. Anyway, this boat then put some sort of spinnaker/crusing chute up, and shot off, ahead.

Soon, I was faffing around with our spinnaker, something I haven't practiced using much before, so it all just ended up in a mess, with falanda moving much slower than before anyway!

The fog was only just starting to lift when we passed Plymouth Brakewater, and the wind had started to fill in, so we had a nice sail up the channel. We were waved in by some friends from Topsham, and also got to watch the amazing firework display with some other friends nearby!

Heading towards Torquay tomorrow, so will be a long trip, arriving late on Friday. From there its only another 20 miles to the Exe, where we should be by early evening on Saturday.

To releive me and my mum from the phone calls, I can annouce that we should be passing Exmouth at around 4.30pm, and arriving at Topsham 5.30/6pm ish!
